Newest Potatoes in Chief

With the official end of the schoolyear coming to a close, it’s time to officially announce the new board members for Brave Potato! Robert Angell, Allie Lembo, and Samantha Sheahan are returning to the board and, after a lengthy interview process, will be joined by Christine Prevas! It’s a strong group leading Brave Potato Productions for the 2012-2013 season. In addition to the regular board, we are pleased to announce that Cheyenne Davis will be our first ever technical director. That’s right– we’re so big now we’re getting to invent positions. Woohoo!

Furthermore, Brave Potato is accepting play submissions for the 2012-2013 season. If you have a play you would like to direct, or a play you would like to see someone else direct, or would like to direct a show but don’t have a play in mind, write to our BRAND NEW e-mail address– bravepotato@kenyon.edu– to submit!

Student Organization of the Year

So, we haven’t had too many followers on this blog…but that’s all part of the past. Because now, we’re incredibly popular. Because we are the recipients of…Kenyon College’s Student Organization of the Year for 2011-2012!

It really is an honor, and we’re so glad that our efforts have been recognized. It has been a fantastic year for us, with six incredibly well-received productions and a seventh to come (see Dr. Faustus this Friday and Saturday in the cemetery)! We have produced two musicals– the only two musicals on campus this year– as well as the first show in Kenyon history to be performed in the round. Most importantly, we have made student theater a force to be reckoned with on this campus.

We would like to give a shout-out to the Kenyon Collegian and to MESA, the other two nominees this year for Organization of the Year, both of which were just as deserving for the award and it was an honor to be nominated with them.

Brave Potato on the Thrill!

Brave Potato President Miles Purinton talks about what makes Brave Potato special on The Thrill!

Also, congratulations to the cast and crew of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which had three successful performances and some fantastic buzz! Brave Potato: breaking fire safety restrictions in the Old Bank Building since 2010.

So Much We’ve Missed

Ahhh, there’s so much we’ve missed!

I’ve been really bad about keeping up this website– since our last post, we’ve not discussed our group’s two most recent productions– Moose Murders and And Baby Makes Seven. Which is a shame since both shows were immensely successful! You can watchMoose Murders on our youtube channel, and can see how supportive the audience was, which was so important for the success of the show. We had a line stretching beyond the post office before the house was even open!

And then And Baby Makes Seven, which should be on youtube soon, went up this past week and showcased the amazing talent of the cast and crew.

I’d pretend that I’ll try to update this website more…but I can’t make any promises. But stay tuned for any updates on our upcoming productions and/or news about the group (hopefully we’ll get a nomination for Student Organization of the Year!)

It’s a Hard Knox Life– sold out both shows!

It’s official– our musical cabaret show “It’s a Hard Knox Life” has sold out both shows! It’s not a surprise that our Saturday show (today at 4:00!) has sold out, given the success of Friday’s opening performance! Congrats to everyone involved (with special mention being deserved for Jaime Cohen, the fantastic pianist who we hope to see more from in Brave Potato! Thanks, Jaime!)

Lots more is going on. “The Rimers of Eldritch” opens in two weeks! Meanwhile, Charles Lasky and Miles Purinton, co-presidents and founding members of Brave Potato, will be putting up their senior thesis “Sex & Other Vices” (presented by KCDC) next weekend! Brave Potato wishes them the best of luck. Congrats, gentlemen, on finally making it to the Hill theater. And I don’t just say this because I, the person writing this post, am in fact Miles Purinton, one of the people who is putting up said thesis.

Lots of Updates

It’s been a couple of weeks since “Stephen King High School: The Musical!” took the campus by storm! We had over 350 people in attendance– a new Brave Potato record! Thanks for the support, everyone!

If you want to relive the show, or didn’t get to see it before, check it out on youtube by going to our channel BravePotatoPresents.

And…rumor has it that the cast will be reunited at the Kokes concert this Friday 10/14. What could it mean? Might it mean the best Kokosinger introduction of all time?

Maybe.

So many exciting things!
